  1. Hey Scott, Have you considered a Texas adventure? The Bandera 100k is January 8th. Geoff Roes is signed up. (www.tejastrails.com)

I've done the 25k twice and the 50k last year. I think I'm going to try my first 100k this year.

  2. It always blows my mind that there are so many "crazies" out there willing to put themselves thru hell, that races have to perform a lottery to determine who to let in.

  3. Western States lottery is tomorrow!!!!! I have my fingers crossed.

I heard that they are expecting 3,000 people to apply for the 250 slots. It might be easier to get into the Ironman at this point.

  4. Is it true the application fee for WS is in the $375 range?!?

  5. Yes, the entry fee for Western States was bumped up t0 $370 for 2011. Craig Thornley's blog has some great dialog about the increase after it was announced in September.

Personally, another $75 doesn't really bother me. Then again, I just blew thousands on Ironman Hawaii, so perhaps I'm still in shock. ;-)

  6. On the same day that the WS lottery opened up, CC Times ran this article on runners "rebelling" against high race entry fees by putting together a free (unsupported, untimed) race.

"Runners are encouraged to wear baggy running shorts from the ’70s because, English said, that was the era when long runs were free and not commercial."

  7. Thanks for this! I just signed up for WS thanks to your reminder, and I'm planning to sign up for Miwok and Hardrock, but I hadn't considered Way Too Cool or Wasatch (and maybe I should).
