Scenes from the Woodside 50k (Dec, 2007)

I took a walk down my driveway on Saturday and got a few shots of the 270 trail runners braving the cold (and bees, apparently) at the Woodside 50k/35k/17k/10k. Check out all the smiling faces!

If you see your face, you are more than welcome to the photo - just right click and save!

  1. Yes, bees were there. Fortunately I was told about them by the volunteers, but a few others weren't so lucky.

    Thanks for volunteering, Scott!

  2. Ouch! Aside from the bees (got nailed 5 times), it was a fantastic experience. Stinson Beach was my first organized race (I don't consider it cancelled). I got a rush I hadn't experienced in a long time. I did the 17Km at Woodside and got the same. I did not like bees coming into this one and it was a big deal for me to run through them knowing I would get stung. It felt good to get over that fear and I had good energy from my fellow runners.

I've been racing triathlons as an age-grouper since 1993 and just moved out here last year from Kentucky. I'm in awe of my surroundings and am like a kid in a candy store. I look forward to Muir Beach and the many other trail runs I plan to participate in.

Your blog has inspired me as well as your outlook on the sport in general. Bravo Scott! I'm very new to the sport, but it sounds as though you bring a lot to the table so thanks for all you have done in the past and what you surely will do in the future.

  3. Scott! Where were you? I noticed a blue bag at the 1st aid station with the name "Dunlap" on it, but I didn't see you anywhere nearby. Bummer. I was really hoping for a celebrity sighting. At least I caught a glimpse of Kid Kanning at the finish line.

My total sting count: 21. No joke! I had the great misfortune of being there for both swarms. My time from the turnaround to the finish was so much faster than the way out because I wanted it all to be over with THAT bad. Ouch!

This was my last bay area run for awhile, but I hope that some day I end up at a race you're at, so I can go all fanboy on you. Heh.

    Thanks for the great blog!

  4. Glad to hear you guys had fun despite the bees.

I actually didn't volunteer - that aid station was well staffed, and PCT said they didn't need more. I did bring down a bag full of gloves and hats in case anyone needed some to battle the 35-45 degree morning. But it turns out most were pretty darn warm by the time they reached the top of the hill!

  5. Scott, just wondering if you had taken any other photos of runners on the trail. Someone was taking some shots as my brother and I went by, and I'm pretty sure it was near the first aid station. Seemed like the photos would have been pretty good ones, and I'm hoping to find out who took them and get a chance to see em. I would be happy to provide my email address/bib # if you have other pics.

    Thanks, Andy

  6. I too saw someone taking pictures at that same place and was wondering the same thing. Scott, If you do have some more pictures or know who was taking pictures I'd love to check them out.

    Thanks,
    Chris
